First Church of Christ, Scientist, Portsmouth, VA is a branch of The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston Massachusetts, which was founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy . Its mission is to “commemorate the words and works of our Master (Christ Jesus)” and to “reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” We’ve been a part of the Hampton Roads community for over 50 years and welcome all to our services and activities.
Services are held on Sundays at 10:30AM and a testimony meeting on Wednesdays at noon. In our Sunday School, which also meets at 10:30AM, young people under 20 get to know God, and learn how to apply the lessons of the Bible to the challenges they face each day. Child care is provided during all services and church activities.
If you’re in need of a quiet place to study and pray during the week, our Reading Room, open on Mondays and Fridays from 12PM to 3PM, provides the peaceful atmosphere you seek. You can also purchase or borrow books and reference material for at-home study or ask questions of our librarian, on staff to assist you.
